How Does Vert Shock Work?
The whole idea behind Vert Shock comes from a secret Russian training regiment which is designed to improve your strength and explosiveness as you also work to become more agile. Vert Shock targets a very specific workout that is both high-intensity with great impact. This workout targets the nerves in your legs.
THIS PROGRAM IS BASED ON HIGH-INTENSITY ADVANCED PLYOMETRICS THAT FOCUSES ON THE TYPE-II FIBERS IN YOUR BODY, WHICH IS ULTIMATELY YOUR FAST-TWITCH MUSCLE FIBERS
This program helps you convert your slow-twitch muscle fibers to fast-twitch muscle fibers. The idea is that the faster your muscles are, the more force you will be able to use, which ultimately leads you to the results that you are looking for → a high vertical jump.
People are born with two types of muscle fibers:

It’s pretty simple, if you pull on a rubber band, it creates tension, and once you let it go, the rubber band extends the force that you created and sends it flying across the room. The same way how when you bend your own legs, tension builds up, and when you finally extend your leg, it releases all the tension.

Vert Shock Workouts
Vert Shock is a program that is designed to help increase your vertical jump. Vert Shock comes in three separate phases, which follow an 8 week workout program.
Adam Folker calls it the 3-Step program, and he says that it is very easy, and I too can agree to that statement.
The 3 Phases:
STEP #1: The PRE-SHOCK phase
The first week of the program is called the PRE-SHOCK phase. “During the first 7 days of VERT SHOCK, you will be introducing your body to unique movement patterns and exercises of the program”.
This phase is more so the introduction to the program and this phase is designed to prepare you for the next phase.
This part of the program just prepares your body for the main portion of your training during the next phase. I would say that the best way to explain this phase is that it is the warm-up phase.
Adam Folker designed this program to be easier for you. This is one of its many benefits compared to other programs, because in other programs, you are going to put in a lot more effort and work in order to get results. Folker wants you to work SMART not hard. This program is centered around special jumping exercises that are combined with a unique set of reps.
This is a very good way to start a vertical jump training program because you don’t want to get into the hard stuff early. You want to be able to prepare your body for what comes next.
For most of you, this is going to be your FIRST vertical jump training program, and you may notice that the Pre-Shock phase may feel hard at first. For most of you, the first phase is most likely going to feel like a shock rather than a pre-shock. If your body feels fine during this phase, then that is great. Now if you are struggling in the pre-shock phase, do not panic, THIS IS NORMAL.
Your body just needs to get accustomed to it. The greatest thing about Vert Shock is how the workouts are not really hard at all, not to mention, they aren’t long either.
I would say that for each exercise, it took about 30-45 minutes for each workout session. Compared to The Jump Manual, this is a lot quicker with less effort, and still good results.
Just know that for these workouts, you are going to be performing them at MAXIMUM INTENSITY.
It is recommended that for each exercise, you perform them at maximum intensity. If you are performing an exercise, and you suddenly seem tired, you have a good reason to stop and that is fine. It is actually better to stop as soon as you notice your jumping height decrease. This is actually one of the many faults with the vertical jump known as Air Alert, where they push you to do an insane number of reps, but at the end, you won’t get any sort of result.
The workout is going to feel easy because of this. This method is actually proven to work, and the best part is, you are never forced to push yourself to the limit, which is often found with many normal workouts at the gym with weights – IT REALLY BURNS.
During the first week, you are expected to workout 6 out of the first 7 days.
The First and Second Day:
During the first few days, you will be doing a lot of plyometric – jumping – exercises.
For the most part, you will be doing exercises dedicated towards increasing your strength and power.
Third Day:
During the third day of the first week, you will start a full upper body workout. During this day, you are prioritizing workouts based on your upper-body strength and core-strength.
Fourth Day:
Once you get to the fourth day, it will be a day for you to rest and recover from the first three days. This is very key, and vital for any training program.
Although you are working out 6/7 days in the first week, you are actually doing 4 different training exercises each day in 30 minute sessions. During the fourth day of the week, you will be required to repeat the first three days again.
According to Adam Folker, most athletes actually see a 3-5+ inch gain on their vertical jump in the 4 days of your training during the PRE-SHOCK phase!
My friend actually saw a small increase in his vertical just in the PRE-SHOCK phase alone. I definitely did not expect that!
The idea behind step 1 is to essentially jump start your body, hence the pre-shock name.
STEP #2: The SHOCK phase
This is the main event, and this is the phase where you will really be earning the most value from the purchase.
Step 2 of the VERT SHOCK training is designed to push your body to its limits.
This stage is designed to “SHOCK” your body into jumping higher to heights you can’t even dream of.
Both me and my friend actually tried out this program, and I can most certainly say that he definitely felt the pain in his muscles after the PRE-SHOCK phase. I did not feel this pain because I already tried a vertical jump program successfully with The Jump Manual, which means my body is already accustomed to these sort of workouts, and just know that the workouts at The Jump Manual are more intense than Vert Shock. Although my friend did feel pain in his muscles after the first week, he was still excited and determined to get to the SHOCK phase, because he really wanted to dunk. After the first week, you begin to realise that this program right away actually works. He already had a small increase in his vertical during the first week which is considered to be the introduction to the program. I was actually surprised to see that because with The Jump Manual, I didn’t really feel what my friend did after the first week of using Vert Shock.
He already felt those hops starting to come in. As you begin to start week 2, your confidence level should be high because you feel like it does truly work. Having this level of confidence really does help.
The SHOCK phase lasts about 6 weeks. During these 6 weeks, you are required to train on an average of 3-4 days just a week! This is very impressive because most programs don’t give you this much rest time.
Each type of workout movement that you are required to do, will target those specific elastic fibers as explained previously. It is CRUCIAL that you truly do this program with maximum effort, especially during this phase. You need to EXPLODE on every jump you do in order to see maximum results.
The number of reps more so remained the same throughout these 6 weeks. What’s so great about this is that you aren’t increasing the number of reps that you are doing, yet you are still feeling BIG results, and noticeable changes to your body as you progress through the weeks. Most programs require you to increase the number of reps DRAMATICALLY each week, but this program doesn’t really rely on that, and let me tell you, after doing The Jump Manual, it really felt great.
As you slowly begin to do these workouts week-by-week, you will begin to notice your body slowly becoming accustomed to these workouts, and it will ultimately become much easier as you go on. Your body will begin to adapt to what you do, and you shouldn’t feel what you felt during the first week.
You should begin to feel EXPLOSIVE!
AFTER JUST A FEW WEEKS, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO LEAP HIGHER THAN ANYONE YOU KNOW. AFTER USING VERT SHOCK FOR JUST A FEW WEEKS, I HAD GAINED 4 INCHES TO MY VERTICAL!
As you begin to feel more accustomed to these exercises, you should start to feel more comfortable and a pop to your step. You should feel more explosive, and with each workout you should be able to push even harder with each new set.
Just as you approach the ending of the SHOCK phase, you should expect to be able to achieve what you have been working so hard to do.
One particular morning you may just feel it in you, the next thing you know you try and dunk a few times, and BOOM… YOU CAN FINALLY DUNK!

STEP #3: The POST-SHOCK phase
Congratulations, you have reached the final phase of Vert Shock.
The final touches, the cherry on top. Your FINAL push to gain those extra inches needed, something you want very badly at this point.
Think of this as capturing the flag in a video game, once you capture the flag, you need to be able to get back to your home base successfully in order to earn that WIN you have been wanting so badly!
I would honestly say that this is probably the HARDEST week you will face during this entire program.
Luckily, at this point your body has learned, and it has become accustomed to STEPS 1 and 2.
This should be cemented into your muscle memory…
You are going to feel worn out, but you need to be able to give it that one final push, and guess what, once you are done this week, not only will you be able to DUNK EFFORTLESSLY, but you are done, you finally get to have your break.
During this final week, you will be training for approximately FOUR days at 30-45 minutes per session. It will be similar to the PRE-SHOCK phase, as you are expected to workout 6/7 days. During these days expect to put yourself to the limit, working out with intense training sessions. Because you only get one day of rest, I do recommend that before you eagerly decide to attempt to test out your newly acquired hops, you should rest a few days after the program, so you can see your MAXIMUM result. You won’t get much of your jump if your body feels tired.
One thing I would like to recommend for those of you who do feel tired, JUST REMEMBER, YOU ONLY NEED TO MAKE ONE FINAL PUSH! DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO GO EASY. PUSH YOURSELF TO THE LIMIT!
Although for most of you this may feel like the hardest part of the program, I feel like this is also the most exciting part of the program. I mean you are finally going to be done, and not only that, the feeling you have once you are done, is just CRAZY!

I was already able to dunk before Vert Shock so again, I was never expecting to see a high jump. I just want to say that I was personally surprised by my results. I most certainly was not expecting this jump.
I feel like I can dunk even better now, and I can even perform windmills, which is something I wasn’t able to do before. I can even dunk better with two legs now, rather than before where I would only feel comfortable dunking off one foot. Vert Shock Cons
- NO Weight Training Module Included – Now I know in the pros section I talked about how this is actually GREAT, but it is also bad. Yes this program does not require it, but it is nice to have some sort of bonus module, dedicated to weight training. Some people enjoy doing workouts that include weightlifting and it’s just nice to have that option. Although The Jump Manual requires weights, there was a bonus module given that was designed to help those who don’t have weights. It’s just great to have that option, but this program does not give you that option compared to The Jump Manual.
- Lack of Scientific theory – Adam Folker didn’t do a very good job of explaining how the program works and why it works. This is something that I really appreciate from programs like this one but unfortunately none was given after purchase. Luckily the first vertical jump program I did, The Jump Manual, was scientifically proven by its creator, Jacob Hiller. The Jump Manual was scientifically proven and the creator goes over how and why it actually works in great detail. I later found out some scientific facts about how the program works and why it works. He even goes on to talk about the Russian training regimen, but it’s crazy I had to discover this in the front page and not after purchase, besides it didn’t go into MUCH detail. This is both good and bad. Some people would actually prefer the less read.
- Not Recommended to those who are injury prone and Older people – If you are injury prone I wouldn’t recommend it because this is an intense workout program that is provided for those who want to see quick results. If you are injury prone you should look for something like The Jump Manual, where it is slower and has more options.
- Hard Work Required – but at the same time, I mean you shouldn’t expect a skill like this to come easy.
- Optional Extras you have to pay for – there are some nice optional extras that you have to pay for in order to access. This really does suck and bums me out. It sort of feels like being locked out of a video game, where they have an extra PAID DLC story mode, where you have to buy it, with the game, in order to access.
- ONLINE ONLY – can’t download videos or access it offline, YOU NEED THE INTERNET
Vert Shock Final Thoughts
Ultimately, I give Vert Shock a 4.5/5 stars due to the improvements that I have seen, the price, the presentation, and the ease of use. It is by far the most fun and efficient Vertical Jump out there!
